Monthly Member Meeting


Meeting Minutes - February 2, 2010

Opening:
The regular meeting of the Kings Beach Parent’s Co-op was called to order at 6pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 in Incline Village by Lorelei VanPeborgh.

Present:
Lorelei van Peborgh, Rebecca Roxburgh, Danielle Zendner, Andrew Springsteel, Rich Drewes, Rodney Shoemaker, Caroline Kaplan, Kimberly Douris, Lisa Sussman, Mike Okimoto, Ken Arnette, Leslie Chapman, Tanya Miller, Juanita Tapia-Robles

A. Approval of Agenda
The agenda was unanimously approved as distributed.

B. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved via e-mail.

C. Open Issues

I. Danielle made the announcement that All of the paperwork for each student is due Now. Please contact her immediately if you have any questions.

II. Monthly Member meetings are Required. Anyone who has missed more than 2 thus far, will be contacted and given a "Make Up" opportunity, either in the classrooms, fundraising, Or another local parent class in the community.

III. Ski-Skate Vacation week begins February 15th. We would like to get an idea of how many families/children will be interested in taking advantage of a Cooking Camp that week?
Lorelei will send out an email to get a head count.

A. Members and Non-members are welcome.
B. Usual rate and times are 9am- Noon, with a $50 fee. (If other times are needed, please inform Lorelei).

IV. Snow Days: We took a member vote, and was unanimously agreed upon to follow the Washoe Co. snow day "call". Their number is: 775-337-7509.

A. Lorelei will continue to check their web site, and mass-email our members as early in the morning as possible.
B. Andrew is looking into the option of texting those who choose this form of notification.
C. Danielle has offered to help out with child care in the case of a snow day for those parents in a bind due to work. Please email her for questions.
D. This Vote for Washoe Co. Snow days will be active until Sept. 2010. At that time, we will vote this decision again for the 2010-2011 school
year.

V. Delayed School Starts: Usually will be at 10am. In this case there will be NO morning pre-school, with Afternoon Pre-School starting as usual.

A. Elementary school will start at 10am.
B. To check on Delayed starts, please note the Washoe Co. number above.

VI. Late Pick-Ups: We will be enforcing this fee, beginning immediately.

A. The fee is: $5 for the first 5 minutes late, & $5 for each additional 5 minute increments.
B. If you feel that you have been late in the recent past, please place the $5 in the tuition box on your honor, as Danielle would prefer not to "police" this issue.
C. If you Know you are held up in traffic, etc...Please call another parent that is already at the School that day, and ask them to please sign-out your child and stay for a few extra minutes until you arrive, alleviating the Teacher feeling responsible for waiting for you. Thank You.

VII. Science Class Pick-Up from Sabrina: As she is truly Not a member, but a teacher employed by the school, it is imperative that she leaves on Wednesdays by 2:50. This is truly when her responsibility and contract pay is finished.

A. The Parent working in the classroom this day will take-over at 2:50, and resume cleaning and "closing up" after all pick-ups are taken care of.

VIII. The KBPC to obtain a Permit through the County & TRPA, which will give us the opportunity to become a Certified Private School.

A. The rough cost estimate is $20,000, which includes the cost of paving the property. IF anyone has any personal contacts in this industry, Please email Rebecca, as she will contact them in the hopes that they will donate part or all of that cost of paving. What a Feel Good Donation!
B. We realize the NEED for growth in the North Lake Tahoe Community. Our school has grown leaps and bounds in the last 3 years! With the addition of the Elementary School, in 2008, then filled another Need in our community. This will Only continue to Grow. This permit, once completed will give us the opportunity to have the True Staying Power; proving our commitment to the community, that we Will offer exceptional education. in our traditional small classrooms (10 students max.) Pre-School – thru - the 6th grade.
C. Ken Arnette has offered to review our paperwork, and offer his professional opinion and suggestions at the next Directors Meeting.

IX. Suggestion was made to inquire with Parasol for Capital Improvement grants.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:00pm. The next general meeting will be at 6pm on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in Incline Village.

Meeting Minutes - January 6, 2010

Opening:
The regular meeting of the Kings Beach Parent’s Co-op was called to order at 6pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2010 in Incline Village by Lorelei VanPeborgh.

Present:
Lorelei van Peborgh, Rebecca Roxburgh, Danielle Zendner, Coralee Walther, Rich Drewes, Lisa Sussman, Shelly Fallon, Robin & Mike Hart, Tanya Miller, Kevin Mitchell, Rodney Shoemaker.

A. Approval of Agenda
The agenda was unanimously approved as distributed.

B. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the previous meeting were unanimously approved via e-mail.

C. Open Issues

I. The previous Directors & Officers meeting concluded that they will now meet every other month.

II. Rebecca invited members to be a part of the Fundraising Committee.

A. Coralee Walther, Robin Hart & Shelly Fallon all offered their services.
B. The Book a Thon will take place in March. This is an excellent way to generate money by asking friends & family members of our students to sponsor each child reading a book.
C. The Annual Yard Sale will take place in June. Please feel free to start getting donation items together and storing them in the shed.

1. Robin Hart will be on the look out for Big Ticket Items from her clients; reminding everyone they can be a tax deductible donation.

III. Vacuum Care – A reminder that we All need to help and empty & take care of and clean the filters of the vacuum’s in both class rooms.

IV. Paperwork & Documents – Danielle has organized and updated our filed documents. She had individual packets for families to complete and return by next week.

V. Parent’s As Teachers – Danielle has the reminder and motivation for All families to remember that We Are All Teachers in the classroom.

A. Everyone is especially skilled in specific areas, and these are great “areas” to pull inspiration for lessons for the students.
B. Ideas are as simple as integrating new toys and items into the sensory bins and different play rooms; this will get the students inspired.
C. Preparing lessons or activities is as important as teaching them.
D. Danielle offered to help coordinate dates, times and ideas for these lessons and activities in the Pre-School.

VI. Music Teacher may possibly replace the Spanish class in the Elementary classroom while Liz is on vacation for 2 months.

A. Lorelei will be in touch with the interested music teacher.
B. Coralee is looking for suggestions for field trips to also fill this time slot.

VII. After school Ski Lessons. Coralee & Laurel have signed up their sons in the after school Diamond Peak Ski Lessons. If anyone is interested in joining them, please contact either of them.

VIII.
Nanny needed for a local Incline Family from 11:30 – 5pm each day. If anyone knows anyone that they would recommend, please contact Lorelei.

VIX. Ice in the Parking Lot – A suggestion for the rubber “restaurant” mats for the entrances of both classrooms; as this will be an easy ice remover.

A. Please contact Lorelei if anyone finds great deals on bags of sand.
B. Lorelei will also call Rockwood and Spitzen lumber to see if they will donate tree mulch or sawdust.

X. Raw Food Cook Books – A Fantastic suggestion to put together a KBPC, Healthy, Organic and Raw Food cook book. Each family would provide 2 recipes that their children Will eat.

A. Shelly offered to help to put this together.
B. A wonderful way to share easy recipes that kids will eat, and to sell this cook book as a Fundraiser!
